She has a BFA in painting and did post graduate art study at the University of Oregon. The workshop will be presented by Shayann Hoffer, an award-winning freelance artist and educator who works with youth in the areas of drawing, painting, cartooning and still-clip animation. Students are asked to bring a short story to work with and/or existing artwork they may want to use. It will also include some comic book history and discussion of noted artists. The workshop will include character and story outline development, comic drawing techniques and layout options. Sign up for this workshop to learn what it takes to be an illustrator and author of your own book. The Kimball Public Library is offering a Cartoon Art Workshop for ages 12-18 from 3:15 – 5:45 p.m. She is based in Minnesota, and will talk about writing and publishing a novel. A reviewer described Lourey as “the literary love child of Agatha Christie and Garrison Keillor.” Her series began with “May Day” and the most recent is “September Fair,” set at the Minnesota State Fair. Jess Lourey, author of the Murder By Month series, will give a presentation at the Kimball Public Library from 10 – 11 a.m.
